Economist (as do most narrow-focused 'specialists') have a one-dimensional understanding of human behaviour and therefore the human condition. It is a product of 'specialisation' that is fragmenting society socially, intellectually and professionally.

Of course they can! The better question is whether capitalists and humanists can be friends!

Because Karl Marx and marxists don't exist.

Why do they need to be friends? Is the world not big enough that they are just acquaintances? With an occasional rare, deep, wild, anarchic, punk rock relationship?

I just love these BS humanists. Always obsessed with Economics and what economists do. Stick to your books about whatever cited by NOONE.

I suppose so, if an economist with the slightest care for basic human rights were to exist...

Economics is a squishy social science that makes guesses about people and money. A branch of psychology. Liberal Arts teach democracy.
-
Neoclassical economics is based on strict rules of human motivation/behavior that bear no resemblance to reality. Behavioral economics acknowledges that, and offers science-backed proof of how humans TEND to behave. Much closer to reality.
-
much of chemistry is based on strict rules about the behaviour of electrons, atoms and molecules that bears no resemblance to reality. Yet it works.
-
That’s not the case with traditional economics.
-
It certainly breaks down and stops working, and any good economist knows where those boundaries are. But when it works, it works well, just like chemistry is good at describing the bulk chemistry of substances, but not their individual microscopic behaviour.
-
Even then, a hammer is a poor tool in many situations, but a carpenter knows when it is, a broad brush bad for painting poor detail, yet a good painter know s when to use it. Economics working well in some situations and not other isn't an exception, it is common.
