In a new book, “White Fragility,” Robin DiAngelo attempts to explicate the phenomenon of white people’s paper-thin skin. http://nyer.cm/g7n4zIH

This is the most hilarious cottage-industry going right now. "DiAngelo addresses her book mostly to white people, and reserves her harshest criticism for white liberals like herself (and like me), whom she sees as refusing to acknowledge their own participation in racist systems"

So her theme is racism, race, & white fragility, & she reserves her "harshest criticisms" for people like herself who've dedicated their lives (& bank accounts) to ostensibly working to make things better. Self-flagellants and pedantic scolds are often packaged together.

No, thank you. I've heard & read too much already. What's useful and worthwhile and representative of actual life on earth amongst humans is part of my life. Having done that, I'm at leisure to sit back & laugh at the absurdity of the industry. The self back patting must be nice.

Because as a person who's regarded as a white man, that's what you can do. You keep on... making her point.

Poc have been using ‘white fragility’ forever... yikes. I’m all for white academics studying their own race and calling their ppl out, but not if the work is based on the uncredited labor of poc

There is nothing fragile about someone.who’s father was murdered, who grew up a white minority, who’s friend was nearly raped, who’s teacher was raped but who has family members are African and African American. You see all of it.

"White fragility" is just a dismissive cop out used by people who make generalisations about white people and are met with responses that correct them on their claims. I've seen it used against people defending themselves when accused of being racist just for being white.

tl;dr : if you are white and say you're not racist, you are just a defensive racist. The New Yorker is complete, BuzzFeed level trash sometimes.

If anything the blind spot is living in CA, NY or similarly diverse area — or within a multiracial extended family, which describes more & more American families — and not fully appreciating that there's a self-perceived white majority who can possibly be so "insulated".
