I urge everyone to read Barracoon: The Story of the Last "Black Cargo" by Zora Neale Hurston to hear first hand accounts of a man who was enslaved and lived to experience "freedom." #pickupabook #read #educateyourself

Oooooh so it's the slaves fault they were slaves....hmmm So in that same line of thinking...if only indigenous people of the Americas wouldn't have helped the Europeans who came to their shores the trail wouldn't have been filled with tears. Got it😑

No, the slaves & slave traders were different people, and neither deserved their position. Almost all complex human societies practised slavery and/or serfdom until recent centuries (as it's the easiest way to get people to work on behalf of an elite), and Africa is no exception.

Exposure to & constructive conversation arising from the revelation of experiences of all parties involved in the vast complex of human atrocity is essential to progress. It will always be emotionally challenging. We owe it to all who have suffered to know as much as possible.

Any piece that may be used to strengthen the narrative according to which Black people are considerably responsible for their own enslavement should not be welcome at this time. They were not. Human commerce in Europe is to blame

Any piece that sheds light on the mechanics of the slave trade is valuable. If it reveals African complicity, so be it.
