We are witnessing nothing less than the breakdown of American foreign policy. This week’s extraordinary confusion over even the basic details of the Helsinki summit shows that all too clearly: http://nyer.cm/1dAuRqj pic.twitter.com/1OboVzDf7w

Important points by @sbg1 — “reading out” @POTUS meetings publicly helps mitigate opportunities for the other side to spin the message and assert substantive dominance but the internal readouts are a key ingredient to effective foreign policy. Russian diplomats know more about

The mtg than ours do. Plus they’re handicapped ITO following up on time sensitive due-outs. Not everyone should get the full readout but how can Russia policy progress ( or North Korea, Syria, Ukraine etc which were hopefully on the agenda) if we’re shooting in the dark?

We are living in a dictatorship. Trump makes the decisions and informs no one about the whats or whys. He does anything he wants, completely against normal policy and previous standards. And no one even attempts to reel him in.

I'm unaffiliated with any party and agree with some of Trumps policies, but I have to admit that this week was very, very confusing. I don't know who to believe anymore.

Foreign policy was broken for a long time by continuing to follow policies which were failing for many years. The "confusion" is the result of the "experts" refusing to part with the failed policies.
