Walking in these places as an 18 year old kid from a small midwestern town was a mind-blowing experience. Sad that it is gone.

They were typical of old NYC.

I miss old NYC. The Village, the old Ritz and Bottom Line, 42nd Street in all of its' sleazy glory, and the zoo scene that was the upstairs bathrooms at Studio 54. NYC was a bit dirty and dangerous, but never sterile or boring.
-
Exactly. It breaks my heart to walk past where the old, great places used to be. I miss dirty, sleazy NYC.

It is so good to know that you are a kindred spirit. I don't mind sounding old when I say that the touchscreen generation has no idea what they missed. The sights, sounds and (yes) smells of those days were not always good, but they were memorable.

There aren't many of us left. Getting certain has it's good & bad, but take age over youth everyday.

I distinctly remember 48th Street, it was completely dedicated to music; Manny's, Rudy's, the 'real' Sam Ash and many, many more

I love how big business always wants to play a sad story about some industry that we should apparently feel sorry for because they insisted upon profits over evolution. Things go extinct when refusing to grow. If they are vanishing, they are failures. Bootstraps
