Certainly! He did such an amazing job saving the TTC and running properly and on time.

In Toronto "he turned around a troubled transit system with spectacular results". LOL.

I wished Andy well, after his last #TTC Commission meeting, and told him "I think you're the perfect person to succeed in NYC modernizing the @MTA." He's a likable, personable guy, who is a charismatic, transformational transit leader & gifted communicator—the best I've known 1/

2/ After reading of the toxic New York political feud between the NYC Mayor & Governor, and Andy being unable to book a meeting with either of them, I may have been too optimistic. Cf @MTA, modernizing the #TTC was a cakewalk—Staff, Commission, Chair, Mayor, Premier ALL loved him

3/ Andy, however, is not #Superman, nor a fully evolved CEO like David Gunn, the legendary NA transit leader & Harvard MBA who turned around both @MTA (1980s) and #TTC (1990s), whom I worked under. Mr. Gunn was the master not only of transit operations but also its balance sheet.

1/ I really loved this piece. Had to actually look at the sky for a minute to avoid a confusion-rage stroke when I read there were 200 no-show jobs billing $1000 (a THOUSAND) dollars a day for an unknown # of years. Loved that Byford‘s dad drove a bus through the Blitz.

2/ We need that Dunkirk spirit here for the #MTA. In fact, compared to the dire state of the NYC subways, being trapped on a beach surrounded by literal Nazis seems rather idyllic. Best of luck Mr. Byford. I am rooting for you with all my might, and will spread the upbeat tone

That’s the inherent problem right there: everyone is looking for a saviour! A transit manager cannot save anything, he/she can only attempt to fix it. And for that, city fathers have an obligation to provide requisite adequate funding.

The NYC subways are fine in comparison to most underground train systems around the world

No, Andy Byford cannot save the the NYC Transit system; To do that you need resources & resolve, resolve alone won't do.
