They were caught scaling a fence in El Paso, and spent the night in a holding cell at a U.S. Border Patrol station with other mothers and children, a group of about twenty-five people in all.https://www.newyorker.com/news/dispatch/in-ice-detention-a-honduran-woman-fears-deportation-without-her-son?mbid=social_twitter …

On the afternoon of their second day in detention, two male agents entered the cell. “They didn’t say anything,” Rivera told @JonathanBlitzer: http://nyer.cm/Q2gpIJf pic.twitter.com/KHvgzYA8T4

She pleaded with the agents to tell her what was going on. The other women in the cell were too stunned to speak, Rivera said.https://www.newyorker.com/news/dispatch/in-ice-detention-a-honduran-woman-fears-deportation-without-her-son?mbid=social_twitter …

In the next few hours, the agents started taking other children, too. Eventually, the mothers were told that they would be reunited with their children after spending a few days in jail.https://www.newyorker.com/news/dispatch/in-ice-detention-a-honduran-woman-fears-deportation-without-her-son?mbid=social_twitter …

Nearly six weeks later, Rivera has not seen her son. She fears she'll be deported without Jairo. Read her story: http://nyer.cm/Q2gpIJf pic.twitter.com/SuyiISov1b

the children and stick them in camps that are not technically prisons but have the same basic end: imprisoning within secured boundaries and kept under guards. There has to be a better solution. This cruelty inflicted on infants & toddlers is all out of proportion to the crime.

How about a scan of homeless encampments and centers of gang activity around all (including DC) of our metro areas here in “We love and welcome and want to help everyone” land. Start with LA and DC. Fix those areas. That will teach us how to fix all of OUR other blighted areas.
