In N.Y.C., a city of stark economic divisions, where the wealthy often either send their kids to the top public schools or avoid public schools altogether, families from poor and minority neighborhoods have few good options for their children’s educations.http://nyer.cm/554boVr

Even privilege here isn’t enough. All these childless millionaires paying taxes & still the system can’t cope. I cannot fathom how hard it is for some parents. I can’t fit one of my kids into anything on offer, public or private. Left my job in October, work on it daily & fail.

Also if you ever want to cover toddlers being expelled from fancy private schools (after extensive interviewing) within the first week of class, and facing subsequent blacklisting at 3 years old, gimme a ring.

Asian families have few good options, they have to work long hours and sacrifice some needs, prioritize expenses to send their kids to tutoring classes, hoping that kids can get into specialized high schools. Are they suppose to feel guilty about it?

The problem is all schools should be top schools every school should have best technology especially in the inner cities in all five boroughs there should be showcase schools in the poorest neighborhoods instead of trying shove kids into schools that maybe they’re not ready for

Right on. I'm loving all the pictures of my alma maters in your mag the past few weeks. The article is right on the money. The problem isn't the test, it's the school system.

Why don't the run this social experiment on a new school. why do they insist on experimenting with all top schools in the city all at once?

It's the school and their teaching skills. Don't blame it on nothing else but the failing k-8 Deblasio.
