I had not realized the extent to which Philip played Stan in the garage until reading this. I also had thought he felt he HAD to say something about Renee. But, no, that was to insure that Stan was as thrown off his game as possible.

1) Telling Stan about Renee may have been Philip’s final act of friendship. He knows Stan can’t be caught married to a spy, and that if he is, the Jennings case will come back to bite him. Also, in the next scene, it’s Philip who says Stan can be trusted.

Agreed.

@emilynussbaum I had to interrupt reading your piece to say: Yay, you said "the Jenningses"! -
Thank the copy editor!

Ah, haha. Still counts.

It was perfect. And absolutely unpredictable. Did not see it coming with Paige stepping off the train. The whole ending was pitch perfect.

I totally disagree with her analysis of the garage scene. I think Phillip is expressing true, raw emotion--not just a carefully executed play to escape.

I think this review gets it totally wrong. Everything about Philip showed he was disillusioned with the lying and the conning (not to mention the killing). He pleaded his case using the truth (mostly). That is not a con job. It was the same Philip who stopped lying to Martha.

O GMG, I will miss Phillip and Elizabeth and Stan. Maybe not Paige.

I had higher expectations for the finale. It was good but there were so many questions left unanswered. Paige staying behind was cool though.
-
I think it was true to the show to leave some things unanswered. Rarely do we learn all the answers in cases of espionage. If they had taken care of all the loose ends, it wouldn’t have felt genuine.
-
I understand that completely. I guess the ending of the show left me wanting more. Felt almost like a season finale than the end.
-
I get that. I think I’m just relieved that they didn’t drag it on TOO long. So many shows don’t know when to stop.
-
So true. I guess they followed the Costanza mantra. Leave on a high note and have folks wanting more.

-
Great finales leave some ambiguity. People seem to want a list of all the questions and then just answer them one by one. It was well written, acted and the emptiness of what Stan is left, except Henry, was haunting.
