    Bottom line, 287g is bad. That's why immigrants and allies have been organizing to end it, for years. Then Biden promised to cancel all the agreements Trump signed (). It was a huge win. But now, the Biden admin is pretending like it never happened.

    Trump signed hundreds of contracts w/ police & sheriffs, turning them into extensions of ICE. 287g agreements give cops authority they wouldn’t otherwise have: to check immigration status of people they encounter, look them up in ICE databases, and turn them over to be deported.

    If you can fly people to Colombia you can fly people to the United States. This is yet another example of fear of partisan politics preventing the Biden administration from doing the right thing. They know better, they can do better, and they must do better.

    Yesterday was wild, forgot to share this story from me and ⁦⁩ that the admin appears close to finalising a deal with Colombia to take 4,000 Afghan SIVs temporarily until they can be processed to come to the US.

    The USA took 130,000 Vietnamese refugees in April 1975, so taking 170,000 Afghan refugees SOUNDS EXACTLY LIKE WHAT WE SHOULD BE DOING

    If the United States did this at a similar scale to domestic population, it would mean taking in over 170,000 Afghan refugees.
