Hey Academics! We're making a list of potential speakers for our MARC-U-STAR event and are in search of Faculty Members who were once MARC or RISE Fellows. Can people share this so I can make a nice long list for our students to choose from?

Scientists can learn a lot from skating. After every crazy set in a video, there's a "fail segment" at the end where they show the 30ish bails/injuries they experienced to get the trick JUST right. Behind every success is a string of failures

As a scientist, the more successful you are, the more times you've failed. For every success, acceptance, or grant you receive in science, you've had several failures/rejections. Keep on pushn' my friends.

In academia, the old tip of "promise two weeks and deliver in one" doesn't work 'cause we still always wait until the day before to start. 😑

More Pain With No Gain. Opioids, although being the most powerful pain killers we have, can actually sometimes make pain worse. Read my piece in Scientific American to find out more on this little understood side effect.

We're living in an amazing economic boom right now here in the US. But unlike the 1950s, all that money is going straight to the wealthiest of people. If we're living in an inequitable system, booming economies do nothing for us. .
