I wish they understood that meltdowns are not a choice. Even my own parents always assume that my meltdowns are anger outbursts. They rarely happen to me, but when they do, they just tell me to ‘get over it’, which just makes it worse.

They also are mistaken to think that ‘exposing’ me to things like loud environments or sudden changes in my routine will help me adjust to those things, which it does not. The only thing it does is put way more internal stress on me, so I just shut down.
