Principle is principle and as so many have said before - what exactly is the punishment part of death over an eternity of existence in jail? (Besides my own religious and philosophical restraints - human beings can't judge life and death.)

Death is too good for him but so is prison. Fitting penalty would require us to degrade ourselves. I'm generally opposed to the death penalty but this kind of crime weakens my resolve. Why not rid ourselves of him? We're competent to judge his guilt and the punishment follows.

My objection is not on a case-by-case basis. As long as there is a nonzero chance of executing an innocent man, I cannot support the death penalty in practice.
