Because not everyone will go back and watch the full clip. Instead they will believe the false narrative and then they will vote. We have a garbage media because they want people to vote like that.
I figured it was that. And unless you want to bury history, Lee was a great general. To defeat him was a hella accomplishment. But western journalists suck at their 1 job.

Never believe what the media tells you a Republican or conservative says or did. Your example of checking it out for yourself is the model to follow.
For that matter, never believe what media tells you a Democrat or liberal said or did, either. Media lies unabashedly in both cases -- in one case against, in the other in favor of. I know you know that, but just wanted to reiterate it, because it can't be said often enough.
