I am likewise excited & to be part of the family! It's particularly meaningful to me to publish the biography under the editorship of , who was mentored by Dorothy Day, to whom Fr. Dowling was "our dear Jesuit friend":

Buttigieg audibly chokes up, says caucus result "validates for a kid, somewhere in a community, wondering if he belongs, or she belongs, they belong in their own family, that if you believe in yourself & your country, there's a lot backing up that belief."

For the record, personally I don't think priests deserve any more or less respect and charity than anyone else - a homeless stranger on the street, a family member, or a political rival (although the poor and suffering should be shown even greater kindness)

Yes, you can also check out the papal bull Cantate Domino by Pope Eugene IV wheren he clearly professed anyone existing outside the Church, not only pagans but also Jews cannot have eternal life. You know what I think about anathema sit? It’s missing an h

Wouldn't it be weird if one day there were all these black and brown people in the Kingdom of God while a bunch of white were on the outside saying "Lord, let us in!" And responds "I don't know you." Wouldn't that be weird in a biblical kind of way?

The Church has always allowed some married men to become priests. Attacking Pope Francis over a plan to allow married viri probati (tested men) to become priests is contrary to the constant practice of the Church from the beginning.

Agreed on encouraging episcopal responsibility. Yet the +Barron proposal sheds light on the inescapable elephant in the room: Catholics by & large have lost confidence in episcopal leadership. Given that trust-gap, I fear the yellow check would only exacerbate the confusion...

If you’re a Catholic, you don’t get to hide your racism or xenophobia behind the pretense of morality. That’s the tweet.

Someone once asked me why Catholic priests wear such things, my answer was: because they don't have a wife to tell them they look ridiculous 😆

Do not understand this mindset. One thing I love about RC Church, at least in Scotland, is that you can leave work and go straight to Mass in working clothes and nobody bats an eyelid. This is how it should be.

The Christianity of Jesus left people with more dignity and greater care; with healed wounds and fuller bellies, with calmed fears and quieted worries. It left a wake of compassion. No, this isn't Christianity. To hell with what this is.

This was the quote that got me into Rohr. I heard it quoted on some podcast and I had to skip back to listen to it. A few times. Then I read Falling Upward, and I don't think I'll ever see things the same.

It is amazing how religion has turned the biblical idea of faith into a need and even a right to certain knowing, complete predictability, and perfect assurance about whom God likes and whom God does not like. - Richard Rohr
