I liked the pre-yen japanese currency where value was based on rice harvests. Let's go back to that, but for the equivalent of rice in the modern global world, oil.

Metric system is the edge of impersonality. To twist Hegel words, it's when the Geist no longer trades in dirt and water, but has concretely attained the star-making level of numeracy unshackled by the weight of its own historical limitations :)
