Paul Verhoven is a truly great director of rare intelligence, whether in science fiction or twisted psychological thrillers like Elle. Love the way Starship Troopers sets up its cast of thic numbskulls for the arachnid mincer and carvery.https://www.theatlantic.com/entertainment/archive/2013/11/-em-starship-troopers-em-one-of-the-most-misunderstood-movies-ever/281236/?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=share …

Have you watched early Verhoven? It's as great if not even better. He is something of modern a Howard Hawks. Give him a relatively ok script and he turns it into a gem.

Another great director who comes close to him but hasn't done any sci-fi yet is Matteo Garrone.

I was just eating some exotic pasta and was chuckling about how ridiculously well the Romans invented the grift food. Roman empire = infinite grift

The grift runs strong in your genetic codes.
