Golshiri is awesome! I guess the novel goes miles beyond the adaptation but I like the movie nevertheless

Golshiri's novella is one of the coldest example of minimalism in style and narrative. The movie is surprisingly great too. I'm not sure but I think it's banned in many countries because of that scene involving a child but last I checked it's still on YouTube.

Okay if you are listing Farmanara and thus Iranian cinema writ large, which sometimes you dislike to discuss albeit in mu opinion Iran is one of the last places cinema is truly political than we must also talk of The White Balloon, The Circle, Crimson Gold and Jafar Panahi

Have you ever encountered the work of Rouzbeh Rashidi? I've posted one of his films weeks ago replying to Reza. Absolutely recommended.

Ive been recently going through the entirety of Jafar Panahi's cannon, but Mohammad Rasoulof, Abbas Kiarostami, Sadaf Foroughi, Asghar Farhadi are some other favorites.

Sohrab Shahid-Saless and Makhmalbaf were also recommended to me recently and then if course there is Ali Abbasi, the best living sci fi director in my opinion
