When it came out, it was heavily criticized for its stereotypical anti-Semitism. Every jewish character looked like Svengali. I think it's true but Wajda's film was self-satirical to the core.

Yes, it's much an Eastern European thing evident among Poles and Croats in the early 20th century. It's however different in the context of its genesis than let's say British anti-semitism.
