Even if the US show China to be complicit in the outbreak, I can't see much changing in the way of geopolitical/economic relations from this other than western nations shooting themselves in the foot with sanctions to posture aggressiveness

I don't think that the US response will be strong either. But think of such a scenario, where this situations protracts, then China will be utterly sacrificed. Two benefits will come out of this scapegoating: return to nationalism and strong domestic economy which are reinforcing

Implication comes in different phases like any sort of crime or collaboration: (1) you were working on this as a research, it was leaked and you covered it up. Very bad. (2) you were working on it, someone tampered with it and it was leaked. Very very bad. (3) you engineered it.
