In the time of quarantine, I've started to read Persian mystics. I'm now convinced more than ever that they were all insurgent philosophers under hypercamouflage. Who says 'اَهدِم الکعبه' unless a true promethean who wants human storm the heavens?

I think a great portion of the works of Al-Halaj and Ayn al-Qozat Hamedni are translated. But this is from Halaj's letter to a friend which is not translated. It literally means Annihilate Kaaba (the house of God).

Will try to translate that letter and send it to you. In fact, he was most probably executed because of this letter and not because of his teachings.

They did pay the price though. Halaj was whipped one thousand lashes, then stoned, then hung upside down the skinned, beheaded and burnt. Ayn al-Quzat Hamadani suffered a tortue called Fham-ajin, where they made holes in his flesh and put candles made of combustible wax in holes.
