Hobbes is also great but then you might end up in some greedy mechanistic worldview if you not careful. The best mechanistic philosophy in my opinion comes from neon-Hobbesian like Carl Craver.

Mechanistic philosophy is alright as long it doesn't deteriorate to the greedy level. For example, Bechtel's book on mechanisms is a great entry.
