One more from Candace Bushnell: I’m too old to be embarrassed by books I haven’t read, people I haven’t slept with and parties I haven’t gone to. However, the one writer I’ve never been able to tolerate is Proust.

Anatole France once said 'Life is too short, and Proust is too long.' I think the accurate translation of Proust magnum opus is In search of time wasted

Oooh, that makes some good sense. that's why i'm so behind on all other things that matter in the world. (Btw, as a philosopher how much hate you should have for Proust to quote anatole france 😂)

Are you kidding me? Anatole France was one of the greatest satirists of the promethean creed, Anti-church, anti-organized religion, anti-fascist and socialist to the core.

Fuck Andre Breton and his ilk. Some hipsters who could only get the romanticized version of the revolution. France's work was very similar in style to surrealists but he annoyed them by calling them socialist fakers.

Yes, he disowned all those people who were either serious revolutionaries or great writers / artists perhaps with the exception of Dali. Breton-Dali war was an ego war.

yes he was a 'gangster', an intruder who was more about bullshitting than lit or art. his best quality was his big mouth. i should say with a manner of atonement that when i was a teenager, i like communicating vessels. 😅
