It's like the slow unfolding of a concatenated misfortune: first getting stuck in ice for the whole winter, then lead poisoning, then the goddamn Tuunbaq, burning food supply and people, rebellion, cannibalism, more lead poisoning and more Tuunbaq.

ah, geez, you spoiler. i stopped reading mid-way through your tweet. but yes, pace is one of its literary qualities that makes it an enjoyable watch unlike numerous other wanna-be-horrors series out there.

I think it's very decent adaptation of the book. Have you watched Fortitude yet? Also read Dan Simmons, The song of Kali which has similar qualities, perhaps even darker.

i'm suspicious of Simmons since Hyperion didn't work for me beyond the first 2 parts. (i know you like it, surprisingly). but yeah, DL-ed song of kali and would eventualy read it. also read few first chapters of the nameless, seems promising.

Simmons' horror novels are very different though.
