I had to learn French out of necessity: I did my doctoral research in Paris, at EHESS. I learned German out of love - for the language, not the other love. I understand Russian because it's the most widely spoken Slavic language. I think I always knew English- music and movies.

Literally the best language. Every other language is so clunky and over-Edgar-Allen-Poetic. That's not what makes a language complex, economical resources of a language is what makes it complex and multi-purpose.
