You can build a machine even if you don't have a scientific theory explaining the undergirding mechanisms. The movement you form of a scientific theory of mechanisms at work, you can make a better or a different machine.

sure, all I'm saying is that evaluating theories by what power they allow their wielders to have is much more in tune with non idealised human behaviour.

I think you look at humans as just species, the human is not a natural or a metaphysical register. It's historical and conceptual register which always escapes the assumed purview of established behaviors and values.
