Dhalgren is great, but have read Hogg? Druj almighty! Even as a former fan of transgressive lit, I couldn't stomach it.

I have read much more extreme novels but there is something in Hogg that disturbs me to my core. By more extreme, I mean some novels by my friend Matthew Stokoe, like Cows or High Life.

This is why I truly hate that worthless worm Peter Sotos. I can read everything but not this kind of stuff.

I have a suggestion for you in the vein of the good old Jim Thompson which I really recommend: Wolfson's Bodies are Dust written in 1931 if you can believe it.

I like the title already. I'm going on a short trip tomorrow. Will pick it up during the trip. That is, if there's any e-version.

No unfortunately, there is no e-version. If you are in the states, I can put you in touch with a friend of mine who might have a copy in his store.
