The deficit, of course, has not stayed constant

It's striking that over 50 years ... and much sound and fury between political parties... federal spending has roughly stayed constant as a percentage of GDP.

One of the most troubling trends in public education: the rising education spending and flat teacher salaries.

One of the best things about great non-profit schools is that 12th grade is not the end of their relationship with students. When their kids struggle, they build solutions to help them get back on track:

Does anyone have theory on disconnect between NAEP and PISA scores? NAEP scores flat to down, but USA PISA rankings up (mostly because other countries dropped in absolute performance). Did USA whether effects of global recession better than other countries?

Good to see: urban charter school performance has not suffered from a research replicability crisis. The newest research continues to show strong effects for students living in poverty. This is notable given how many other promising interventions have fallen by the wayside.

. Given that progress made transitioning between technological singularities (hunting -> farming -> industrial revolution) tend to swamp progress within a technological period, should we consider time *between* singularities as an important signal of progress?

Louisiana and New Orleans continue to innovate. Extremely excited about the ability for students to pick up a debt free credential in their 13th year.
