This is the kind of efficiency ag needs to move toward; poly cropping is more resilient, more productive, and requires fewer inputs.
Quote Tweet
A polyculture of wheat grown with walnut trees produces ~ 40% higher yields. 1 hectare of wheat/walnut mix yields the same as 1.4 hectares of each crop grown separately. This is an example of overyielding.

The article illustrates an industry rife with problems, but the cream will rise to the top. Unsurprisingly, adverse incentives coupled with a general unwillingness to invest in high quality removal projects has lead to a great deal of fraud.

The amount of corruption in America’s food system is depressing
Quote Tweet
Early in my career, I consulted for Coke to ensure sugar taxes failed and soda was included in food stamp funding. I say Coke's policies are evil because I saw inside the room. The first step in playbook was paying the NAACP + other civil rights groups to call opponents racist

Not to say anything of BLOCKING THE SUN, I asked a climate tech investor in this company "But what happens to all the stuff you spray in the atmosphere?" "Oh it's great, it dissipates so you have to keep spraying it up there... Repeat revenue." Yeah... "dissipates" huh?

Do you think we should spray chemicals in the atmosphere to BLOCK THE SUN in order to "stop climate change"?

This is depressing
Quote Tweet
I know this is not the main point, but this startup pumping sulfur into the atmosphere is selling carbon offsets tied to something they know they cannot measure or verify. AND THERE ARE PEOPLE BUYING IT. technologyreview.com/2022/12/24/106

We need facial privacy laws
Quote Tweet
Extremely dark stuff. A mom was taking her daughter to Madison Square Garden and she wasn't allowed in because facial recognition identified that she worked for a law firm that's suing MSG's parent company. The mom isn't involved in the case. nbcnewyork.com/investigations

Just a reminder that alfalfa uses 2/3 of the entire river. Mesquite agroforestry could replace that system and reduce water usage by 30-50% across the whole watershed, depending on management.

The result of leaning into political tribalism
Quote Tweet
I used to think <person> was smart. Then I discovered that he disagrees with me about <political issue>, and I realized he couldn't be, because no one who disagrees with me about <political issue> could be smart.

23-year-old Iranian protestor Majidreza Rahnavard's dying wishes--before being hanged--reflect the living wishes of so many young Iranians living under theocratic tyranny. "Don't cry, don't read the Koran, don't pray" "Be joyful. Play happy music"
