In fairness, as with most Iranians, I grew up thinking the English word for the Iranian language is “Farsi.” Until I learned it’s “Persian.” Which is why Google Translate lists “Persian,” not “Farsi.” Many Iranians still incorrectly say “Farsi” in English, adding to the confusion

Also (my pet peeve) Arabs and Iranians respect the letter H. The capital is Teh-ran not Terran. Sohrab Ahmari (
@SohrabAhmari) is not Sorab Amari. Ahmad is not Amad. You are welcome. -
My name has two t's, but I only respect one of them.

also for our fellow Persians : It’s not “Umrica” or “Emrica “ it’s America

-
As we call Persian “Farsi” in our native tongue among ourselves, we also call the US Umrica or Emrica while speaking Persian. If an Iranian uses the words Emrica/Umrica while speaking English, that’s wrong!

Likewise, it’s incorrect to call Iranians as Persians. Historically we have never called ourselves Persians. The Greeks used to do that; something that Reza Shah Pahlvi put an end to and urged western countries to call our country and people as Iran and Iranians respectively.

Thank you! Just like it’s eee-talian , not eye
talian.
Side note: I’ve always wondered why we have our own English names for countries. We should call a country what the local people call it. -
Every country has their own names for other countries. All throughout history. Names are adjusted to the language, the way people can actually pronounce them, and it's completely OK.

I find it interesting. I have mixed feeling about this though. When media members or whom ever start pronouncing things outside of their natural dialect I roll my eyes. This might be me being too judgmental
