What I am trying to say is that unmodded digital PC versions were always a hunk of outdated junk. They run on a legacy code from 2000's with a few unimportant fixes. You always had to install community made fixes to at least enjoy the game. This is not okay.

I mean yeah, they might not be OK but when there are no solid alternatives, considering the wider incompatibility of modding tools/otherwise potentially different experience, that's not really OK either.

Agree, but the old versions will not entirely vanish. Sure they will disappear from Steam and RGL, but there are still lots of keys floating on various marketplaces. Sure, these supplies will be limited, but maybe there will be a way to downgrade the new version. I don't know.

That is the worst thing about remasters - you gotta use new engine and cut any mods for og game completely. For mods that are cars, 3d models etc it shouldn't be a problem to make them compatible - convert the 3d object to new format, rewrite logic, done. Game behaviour mods ...

Getting SA:MP may become hard, or even harder thanks to the new Trilogy Collection removing the old version of games, the latter which you can always downgrade for heavy mod support.
