Looks like Spanish version of GTA 3 also had an alternative logo.

Remember the times this came out. We were fantasizing about crime in our movies and TV in America but not necessarily in other countries. It's very likely they changed it to GTA on other countries so as not to glorify the aspect of crime and have a better chance of selling.

It may seem stupid to do that considering what content exists within the game itself, but this isn't about the player. Video games were still touchy at the time hot off the heels of things like night trap. It's likely to get more stores to stock the game.

Here in Brazil I saw this cover when I was a kid. Don't know if it was the US or the European version...
