Isn't this just the concept of additive color? This is how early color photographs were made. You can see similar effects in some of these http://www.loc.gov/pictures/search/?st=grid&co=prok …

It seems like those are early colour photos, in which 3 separate exposures are taken, with R, G, B filters. It's related. The differences are that I'm using it for artistic expression rather than faithful colour reproduction, and I'm using around 20-300 images instead of 3.

Some details: the bridge image is composed 110 exposures taken over 33 minutes; the clouds are 48 exposures over 16 minutes; the chair is 160 over 30 minutes; the cars are 9 exposures over less than a minute; Shibuya is 131 exposures over 11 minutes.

The images are blended using a Python script I wrote. To generate the colours I used a modified version of the code in this Stack Exchange answer, which emulates the appearance of the sun seen through a prism.https://stackoverflow.com/questions/3407942/rgb-values-of-visible-spectrum/22681410#22681410 …

My attempt is a little disappointing. Once you get the color from the light spectrum, do you tint/combine in an RGB space or HSV space?pic.twitter.com/xTui6gU3Fi

That's very nice! However ... I'm uncomfortable with your use of the word "invented", considering motion-induced colour fringing has been known about for probably more than a hundred years. As others have stated, this effect already exists in many different fields of photography.

Pics or it didn't happen. A google image search reveals no still photography at all, let alone any similar artistic effects.pic.twitter.com/HBI3Yawyps
