There actually is some truth to this lazy, cynical argument, because conservatives are (supposed to be) for freedom and people should not be able to vote themselves someone else's property.https://twitter.com/jonathanchait/status/1381684699681206275 …

Conservatives fear democracy as a system that enables the many to vote themselves a raise by stealing from the rich via tax and transfer schemes. https://twitter.com/baseballcrank/status/1381683123805650945 …

You can’t vote to make someone property because of the 13 the amendment. Pure majoritarianism is never a thing because we have a constitution with amendments. Conservatives like @baseballcrank seem to elide those fact.

But how do we know that those people have an inherent or inalienable right to the property that they own? There's a reason that Locke's right to property became a much more nebulous right to the pursuit of happiness in the Declaration of Independence. And it's not just because

the Founders maybe legitimately feared economic redistribution from the wealthy to the poorer masses. It's also because the Founders weren't necessarily as concerned with inherited property wealth of an aristocratic elite as was Locke. Because taxes have to come from somewhere.
