I hear the “a”.

Wait, I’m wrong. I swear I heard “a” when I heard the clip last week, but I just re-listened, and now I don’t hear it. My theory is Kubrick had him say it both ways.

I hear the space for an "A" and I guess analysis of the signal seems to show that he says it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Okay, but the bigger question is... was that static or his mic going out at the end of his statement or did he choke up?

I’ve heard the argument that it’s his midwestern accent getting in the way. “For” and “a” slur together into a single-syllable “fureh”. I’m listening to the two “for”s to try to see if there’s a difference.
