I wasn't "canceled" by an "online mob" calling for "public shaming" due to "political correctness." In fact my employer didn't want the public to know they were censoring. They were protecting the interests of powerful governments. It's manufacturing consent, not cancel culture.

What I have pointed out over and over is that reactionary speech that flatters the powerful actually gets rewarded, not silenced, that there are positive career consequences for being a toady. The way to really get "canceled" is to stick up for the marginalized and powerless.

What do you think about Chomsky's defense of free speech on principle e.g. in the Faurisson affair? He's been very clear that we have to defend the principle, not just applications we think are important.

Evidently not, by preference. I genuinely think he takes ends justify the means stances in a fashion he knows to be less than fully honest.
