The AHA statement about Dawkins rejects the interpretation that he was pointing to an apparent inconsistency in the current norms of political correctness, while simultaneously providing an example of precisely the confused thinking that he claims he was pointing out. Discuss.

This was a good article that provides an answer to Dawkins's question:http://bostonreview.net/race-philosophy-religion-gender-sexuality/robin-dembroff-dee-payton-why-we-shouldnt-compare …

This article does not answer the question. It's an exercise in sophistry. Just the byline itself is utter nonsense - to think that gender inequality doesn't accumulate across generations displays profound historical and geopolitical ignorance. For centuries, inheritance laws

ensured that aristocracy perpetuated itself along the male line, ie, the male firstborn. Sons inherited everything, daughters were given scraps and expected to benefit from their husband's inheritance.

Interesting answer. (Thanks for sharing.) Does it mean that Dawkins was wrong to raise the question?

I don't necessarily think so. I think it's valuable to try to identify why the two cases are not exactly the same. At the same time, I feel like perhaps D's tweet egged on ppl who just wanted to trash trans ppl (of which there are many on Twitter unfortunately).

It is not right though. Being black is clearly not about the experience of ancestors etc. By that reasoning recent African immigrants should never be categorized as black since American society does not owe them reparations.

There are some ppl who make precisely that argument. (See the link.) But racism is (almost entirely) global and that is why it makes sense to see Africans and African Americans as suffering under its effects (albeit not exactly in the same way)https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Descendants_of_Slavery …

I think that regarding the Dawkins' matter, regardless of the issues one can have with the article ... THIS discussion is better as a response rather than taking an award away from him as a show of disapproval. Many people forget how Dawkins' ended his tweet: "Discuss".
