As a corollary to this: Warren probably stands more to lose than to gain by engaging in ideological purity tests, which I don't think she actually does too often but some of her supporters do.https://twitter.com/NateSilver538/status/1196501475628929024 …

Warren's supporters tend to be mainstream, college-educated liberals more than they are leftists, which helps to explain how Buttiegieg's rise has been a bit of a problem for her. https://twitter.com/PatrickRuffini/status/1196497098482634752 …

Voters who have a deep philosophical/intellectual commitment to democratic socialism are mostly still with Bernie. Meanwhile, voters with softer ideological views, i.e. a hodgepodge of left/liberal/moderate positions (this describes MANY real-world voters) may be closer to Pete.

He’s her biggest threat, notice how his gain is always her loss and vice versa, they share the same group of voters

A major difference between them is that Warren has experience getting things done in complex bureaucracies and Pete is a small town mayor.

Could you explain how an "ideological purity test" differs from straightforward constituent demands regarding policies and their implementation?

Probably something akin to "this policy or burn it all down" ala "Fight for 15" HRC "How about 12, adjusted to local CoL, and tied to inflation/price index" Left: EFFING CENTRIST! When in practice, most/more people would go for the softer ask and call it a huge win.

She'd lose that fight with Sanders but otherwise I can't imagine any other major Dem candidate would even claim purity; it's not like Biden or Buttigieg are idealogical to any degree.
