Also helps Biden that he doesn't have to spend a lot of time explaining who he is. A lot of the candidates' elevator pitches are mishmashes of biography, values & policy. It's hard to cram in all 3. If you can dispense with the bio, you can focus more effectively on the other 2.

The problem is that he has no credibility as anything but a centrist, and a conservative centrist at that.
Run as a mainstream Dem, govern as a centrist. There was a guy in the 90s and another dude in '08 who had decent amount of success doing just that.
But where has it lead us?

I expect that a Sanders presidency would actually very much empower conservatives that sell voters on that "you need us to stop aggressive expansion of government...." I do not expect that Sanders would enjoy much success at seeing most of his agenda passed by Congress.
This is all spot on.
There are other candidates who push these ideas (and better ones) while also having credibility on these issues. So... he expects us to believe him? Come back when he has something not plagiarized from his opponents.
I think most Democrats' positions will end up plagiarized from Warren
none of those policy positions are actually things he really cares about though. he'd be happy with more tax breaks for wall street and some more wars along with some fluff centrist incrementalism on health care that doesn't actually fix anything.
Unfortunately, that is the playbook to win a Democratic primary as a centrist. Run on a platform that's a middle ground with progressives and then just cave during negotiations. His background is a much more reliable data point... he's basically a centrist Republican.
But they aren't policy views, are they? They's overarching statements of principal--the kind of thing with 1000 miles of wiggle room. Is he talking Warren-like proposals, or a couple of tax credits here and there?

The problem is he thinks this is ambitious.
I think it's a lot more ambitious than what Hillary ran on. Honestly, I like this platform but I don't trust him to see it through.
