It's a good deal, and it's a good thing for the country. And I don't think anyone who'd automatically vote against a gay man was going to vote for a democrat anyway.

I don’t think he’s addressing people that will automatically vote against a gay man. I think he’s addressing the people that feel that a gay man may be stepping on a black woman’s toes.
-
Or any woman’s toes. I’m hearing that a lot from other women, though I disagree.
-
True. I get that women definitely have been underrepresented along with other groups. But it’s not like Dems just keep nominating white men. Dems haven’t nominated a white man since 2004.
-
Correct, but you lost 7-8% of Black voter turnout from 2012 to 2016 because that monochromatic ticket in 2016 didn't motivate people. It will need to look different this year, with or without Pete (and I like him).
-
Correct — nobody should be qualified or disqualified based on their gender or the color of their skin. But looking at the final ticket, it would be foolish to not consider both race and gender diversity.
-
Agreed. But we are no where near a final ticket. We aren’t even in debate season yet. But there are parts of Dem twitter that are offended by anyone having the nerve to run who is a man (particularly a white man).
-
Automatically dismissing a candidate for being a white male is just as reprehensible as supporting a candidate solely because they are a white male.

It is definitely a huge deal. But as a gay white hispanic male, I also am aware that most of the time gender and race are way heavier burdens than sexual orientation in the professional and political environment.
-
And no one’s family ever disowned them for being Latino or a woman. Nor did they ban you from getting married or having kids for those reasons. We all suffer differently. It’s not a competition.
-
I agree. We all suffer differently. And I think is important to be aware of that. That’s why I specified about the particular environments where gender and race can be a bigger deal than orientation.
-
Yes, thank you Carlos. Well said. Bc white male gay people have been able to (/were forced to) hide their sexuality they've been able to advance to positions of power faster & moreso than women, historically. An openly gay pres cand is huge. A woman in the oval is more necessary.
-
"able to advance to positions of power faster & moreso than women, historically" There are WAY more cishet female politicians than LBGTQ ones.
-
Yes. I mean, we aren’t counting Mike Pence, for example.

We’ll forget all about this when the big Buttigieg scandal drops: when he was at McKinsey he’d use VLOOKUP instead of INDEX-MATCH in spreadsheets with large datasets.
-
YOU MONSTER YOU HAVE NO EVIDENCE HOW CAN YOU ACCUSE HIM OF THIS OMG
-
This is a little over the top. Pete is totally an index match kind of guy.
-
Hell yeah he is.

Jokes on all of you. He's secretly still using a bootleg copy of Quattro Pro in dosbox on an old IBM thinkcentre.

Actually rumor has it that it was actually Lotus 1 2 3 and Ashton Tate dBase. Disqualified in my mind.
