Social media does change the equation to the extent it makes it much harder for Pelosi to censor members from expressing themselves. It's super predictable, though, that the media is going to amplify the most controversial positions.

That's why I think Pelosi should have done more to de-amplify the Omar controversy. Like roughly: "You know what, I have 235 members, and some of them are going to say stupid shit I disagree with. Her views are not representative of the Democratic Party." And left it at that.

The media seems smitten by outliers. Have been for a while.

AOC is very skilled at press and social media which is why she gets a lot of attention. Her amateurish non-binding Cong resolution on the Green New Deal is a sharp contrast to some of the serious legislation her colleagues like Sharice Davids have introduced.

Seems like evidence attention is better driven by presenting bold proposals to address America's largest systemic issues, rather than just existing, meekly, in somewhat greater numbers.
