What startup concept is the most successfully pivoted-*from*? Is there some problem that seems to attract smart people and then demonstrate to them that they ought to work on something else?

Just FWIW, a lot of successful poker players in the mid-aughts started off playing single-table tournaments (high winrate, low variance, easily multi-table-able). Almost all of them eventually turned to cash games or higher-stakes (and larger-field) tournaments. [1/2]

Being serious about playing single-tables selected for players who were smart about game selection and it grew their bankrolls, often to a point where they could handle the variance in other (higher-EV but much higher-variance) forms of poker. [2/2]
