1. 2002 2. 1989 3. 2014 Given my 21st century rooting interest and physical location, it's a weird coincidence that 1989 makes the list for WGN/Cub reasons.
I fondly remember watching Ryne Sandberg in the afternoon a lot.

The first time I got a child to like my favorite team, he latched onto a favorite player (Josh Donaldson)... who got traded that offseason. He also went to bed with my/his team ahead in extra innings of an elimination playoff game that they soon lost. Such is sporting life.

Another weird coincidence, in a metro area underdog sense, is that in both the seasons that do make my list for A's reasons, the Giants far outperformed Oakland in the playoffs.
