I was feeling too busy so I raised my rates for the second time in my 18 months in business. Now up 40% from where I started. almost 4x the highest I ever got per hour working for an employer.

I don’t doubt he’ll congratulate you, but I also suspect that a gentle nudge (“you raised your rate twice, it’s only 40% higher, and you seem not to have lost a lot of business, so is <20% really the right increase size?”) will come.
