@thinkingpoker Would you consider exploring the game of Gin Rummy on the cast? Serious studies of the game don't seem to exist. (While not a poker variant or betting game, it's potentially a rich source of concepts adjacent to / overlapping with game theory of poker)

It's pretty much all luck, and to the extent it's not, poker skill determines results much more than gin experience does. Let's gamble at it a bit to prepare to discuss it on the air.

This is great. IMO, Gin is more theoretically interesting that actually enjoyable to play. But what a hustler’s game. It has the magical quality of appearing to be mostly luck, even after repeatedly playing. (I suck, but my dad was pretty good).

I have friends who, like Nate, think that beyond the beginner stage it's overwhelmingly luck. And I wonder - if so, why would it be so? Why shouldn't balanced, information-conserving play produce a very real edge across the dozens of turns in each game?

Oh, I was just making a joke. I think it’s a very skillful game. I don’t know how big the edges are, but I’m confident they’re very real.
