This is @bayesianboy’s idea for how we get philosophers - especially ethicists - embedded in tech companies. This is... really good? It could work? Does anybody know how we could actually make this for real happen?https://twitter.com/bayesianboy/status/1271271137364885504 …

Philosopher in tech here. I have many thoughts about this! One is: yes, many parts of tech are parts of philosophy. Tech companies will happily consider philosophers for those jobs. It can be imprudent to insist on calling it "philosophy" rather than the specific subdomain. [1/3]

Replying to @NateMeyvis @add_hawk and
I obsess over Tht. 143d, where Socrates asks how the youth are doing with "geômetrian ê tina allên philosophian"--surely this implies that geometry _just is_ philosophy. I'm convinced Socrates would think the the same about, say, algorithm design. [2/3]

My thoughts about how philosophers can get into tech (and non-academic jobs more generally) are here: https://medium.com/@natemeyvis/advice-for-grad-students-seeking-non-academic-jobs-a21c046a9712 … ...and I've casually mentored many folks making that transition. Happy to help anyone reading this. My DMs are open. [3/3]
