There’s no money in philosophy, which is why no one reads it.
Disagree with this strongly—will try to reply later. (People read tons of philosophy, and the relationship between philosophy and sophistry is as old as philosophy itself; the latter has always been explicitly and famously commercial!)

Allow me to clarify. We needn’t assume that anyone peddling philosophy is engaging in sophistry, snake oil sales, or self-aggrandizement. If we can derive any insights whatsoever from (pseudo) wisdom, then that feels like a net positive contribution to the world.

Jordan Peterson has drastically improved my life through his writings and lectures. People smarter than I am have assured me that, after a half hour of exposure to him, he is in fact a dangerous reactionary and his philosophy is muddled bullshit. And yet, I’m still far better off
