Where do you write stuff that you're not sure you're going to publish or share? Word / Google Docs / Paper / Quip / generic word processor Medium or other publishing platform Notetaking app Something else Could be any stuff - fiction, blogs, poetry, essays, specs, memos.

Depending on exactly what it is, either Google Docs or Workflowy.

I guess that's a way of agreeing with you that the world of software for writing is really fragmented. IMO that's just fine and I'm happy using different tools for different things (and I'm saying this as someone who's spent serious time trying to make Vim my One True Tool).

Yeah, I don't have a "this is good" or "this is bad" pov on it. I'm certainly producing a purpose-driven writing surface myself right now. More just I realized, as a writer with varied things to write, that it is no longer obvious to me where to write them all.

Yeah, I wrestle with this a lot. Oh, also sometimes I just open up Medium and get going there? And some problems I need to take literal pen and paper to.
