Another big picture problem: the ratio of the desirability of publishing in such journals to the desirability of reading the publications emerging from the process is growing higher and higher. I tend to think the classroom is not the main problem. I rarely assign secondary lit to undergrads and when I do it's "classic" articles, not anything in the past 10 years.

Noted. FWIW I'm thinking mostly of grad student training. I think this would help them not send out so many papers to journals, which is often not good for anyone. It would also improve their training.
