As I’ve said a few times, impeachment and removal are wholly political, and Trump may or may not be run out of office early. But if he is, no one is going to ever look back on this and say he got railroaded in an unjust political move that was no big deal on the substance.

People saying “yes they will say he got railroaded” are ignoring the conditional; if Trump goes down, the GOP will have turned on him, as will have Fox News and conservative media.

Well...as important as this point is, there were quite a few Nixon die-hards and still are, and things are worse now. "No one" is way too strong; radicals will emerge shortly after blaming an "establishment" for caving.

No one with no partisan dog in the fight 75 years down the road will say it. I guess that’s a better way of putting it. Nixon defenders are really few and far between today, 45 years later, and plenty of people who voted for him twice are still alive.

I like Nixon more than anyone I know--literally I cannot name one acquaintance who likes him more than I do--and I think his getting forced out of the Presidency was the right result.
